The city of Beersheba and the surrounding Negev desert have come under a heavy long range assault from Iran, resulting in widespread damage and multiple casualties. Alerts were triggered from the Dead Sea to the heart of the south as ballistic missiles and interceptor shrapnel rained down on the "Capital of the Negev." Magen David Adom (MDA) has confirmed that 11 people were lightly wounded by shrapnel and falling debris, while another 20 residents were treated for severe anxiety. Among the 20 distinct impact zones identified by local authorities, one of the most significant hits occurred at Turner Stadium, the home of Hapoel Beersheba, just days before the Israeli Premier League was scheduled to resume operations.

Destruction in the Capital of the Negev

Footage from Beersheba captured large plumes of smoke rising over the city following the impacts. While some missiles were intercepted, the volume of falling shrapnel caused significant property damage. The strike on Turner Stadium is particularly symbolic and logistically challenging, as the league had been temporarily halted due to the war and was set to reopen in just six days. Security forces and MDA teams led by Yanir Yagna and Almog Boker have been scanning the city to ensure no residents are trapped under rubble. The Iranian regime’s persistence in targeting major civilian hubs in the south indicates a widening of the war's geographic scope, even as Israeli defenses maintain a high interception rate.
