The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) announced today that it successfully intercepted an attempt to pass prohibited messages during a lawyer's visit to a high-security prison, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb security threats within correctional facilities.

According to an official IPS statement, the incident occurred when a lawyer arrived for a meeting with a security prisoner. During routine security screening and a search of the attorney's personal belongings, prison guards discovered documents containing encoded messages, signals, and personal greetings from relatives of other security detainees. The materials were immediately confiscated, and the lawyer was detained on site before being transferred to the Israel Police for further investigation.

IPS emphasized that this operation is part of a broader, sustained campaign to prevent smuggling and the transmission of unauthorized communications, aimed at safeguarding the integrity of prison facilities, staff safety, and public security both inside and outside the walls.

In a related update, the service reported that throughout 2025, legal actions were initiated against 34 attorneys suspected of facilitating meetings with security prisoners that could compromise prison security.
