In a dramatic radio interview on Thursday morning, senior military correspondent Yossi Yehoshua leveled serious accusations against the sitting Director of the Mossad, David (Dedi) Barnea, claiming the intelligence chief failed to tell the truth to the High Court of Justice.

Speaking on the "Patri and Zimri" program on Radio Galei Israel, Yehoshua addressed the ongoing legal and public storm surrounding the appointment of Brig. Gen. Roman Gofman as Military Secretary to the Prime Minister.

The Letter to the High Court

The controversy centers on a letter Barnea submitted to the High Court. According to Yehoshua, Barnea claimed in the document that he was writing "at the request of the judges."

"Then Judge Stein comes along, throws him down the stairs [metaphorically], and says, 'We didn't ask for a thing,'" Yehoshua explained. "What is that if not a failure to tell the truth? Is that not jarring?"

Yehoshua didn't stop at the veracity of the letter; he questioned the Mossad chief’s very involvement in a military appointment outside his direct jurisdiction. He characterized Barnea's submission as "a letter that is entirely gossip," arguing that the Mossad head is not familiar with the details of the Gofman case nor has he investigated it.

Demanding Accountability

The correspondent expressed frustration with what he perceives as "special treatment" afforded to the intelligence chief by the media and legal establishment.

Yehoshua argued that while the public is focused on Brig. Gen. Gofman, the real headline should be the conduct of the Mossad Director.

"Why are they giving him a pass?" Yehoshua asked. "If you ask me, the headlines should be about Dedi Barnea not telling the truth to the court."
