As part of the IDF's activity in Khan Yunis, soldiers have located new documents revealing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar's assumption that Hezbollah would join in the fighting against Israel once it attacked in the South.
In a situational assessment carried out by Hamas and published in Ynet, Sinwar wrote to his men: "We received a commitment that the axis will participate in the great liberation project due to the nature of the relationship we are working on." In other documents, he repeats the commitment he received, according to which the Hamas attack would lead to a parallel strike by Hezbollah under the title of "Conquering the Galilee."
Nasrallah ended up disappointing Hamas leadership, however. Hezbollah did indeed advance 15 reduced battalions of the elite Radwan forces along the border and was prepared for an invasion but apparently, Nasrallah was not aware of the exact timing of the Hamas attack, and even after it took place and Israel reacted, the order to fire rockets into Israel was not given as quickly as Sinwar would have liked. Then, for several critical hours, IDF forces, including thousands of reservists called up for duty, arrived at their positions and held the line for a tense day.
Besides the fact that Hezbollah wasn't aware of the timing of the attack, another possible explanation for the group's reluctance to join the fighting was that it wanted to see how much Hamas could accomplish and how successful its operation would be, and by the time it grasped the dimensions of what had taken place, The IDF had organized itself in the north in a way that prevented the effective implementation of the plan to take over parts of the Galilee.
In addition, Iran was apparently the one who asked Nasrallah to refrain from taking action since it prefers to maintain Hezbollah's missiles in case Israel attacks its nuclear production sites.
