The United States Treasury Department announced today (Thursday) that it is sanctioning over ten people and organizations identified as providing the pro-Iran Houthi Army with weapons, money, and fuel, continuing its previous policy towards the Houthis.
A prominent target of these sanctions is Hashem Ismail Ali Ahmad al-Madani, "governor of the Houthi-aligned central bank in Sana’a," who is responsible facilitating the transfer of money from the Iranian IRGC forces to the Houthis.
The Treasury Department also sanctioned Malaysian companies Blu Shipping (M) SDN BHD and Tefcas Marine SDN BHD which provided tens of thousands of tons of needed supplies for the Houthis.
“Today’s action underscores our commitment to leveraging all our tools to disrupt the Houthis’ efforts to acquire weapons...and secure additional revenue,” said Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. Smith. “The United States...will hold accountable those who seek to enable the Houthis’ destabilizing activities.”
