Shin Bet–Dahlan UAE Meeting Sparks Outrage: 'This Is Oslo All Over Again’

The Sovereignty Movement sharply criticized reports that Shin Bet chief David Zini met with Mohammed Dahlan in the United Arab Emirates, warning that such contacts could signal a return to the political and security thinking that preceded October 7.

The Sovereignty Movement sharply criticized reports that Shin Bet chief David Zini met with Mohammed Dahlan in the United Arab Emirates, warning that such contacts could signal a return to the political and security thinking that preceded October 7.

The movement said the reported meeting should “alarm every Zionist citizen of the State of Israel,” arguing that any effort to promote a new Palestinian leadership in Gaza or Judea and Samaria would amount to a continuation of the Oslo process.

According to reports, Zini met in the UAE with Dahlan, a former senior Palestinian security official in Gaza and longtime rival of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Dahlan has for years been discussed as a possible figure in plans for Gaza after Hamas.

The Shin Bet has declined to comment, saying it does not address the schedule of the service chief.

In its statement, the Sovereignty Movement said that if the reports are accurate, they show that even after the October 7 massacre, some officials are still seeking to revive the idea of a Palestinian political entity “through the back door.”

“One cannot speak, on the one hand, about strengthening Jewish communities and Jewish settlement, while on the other hand examining moves that would restore any form of control to Palestinian elements in Gaza or in Judea and Samaria,” the movement said.

The group argued that without full Israeli sovereignty, settlement achievements remain temporary and vulnerable to diplomatic and international pressure.

“The national camp is not prepared to return to the old illusions of political solutions and moderate elements,” the movement said. “Dahlan is not the solution, just as Oslo was not the solution.”

The movement also connected the issue to next week’s Sovereignty Conference in Jerusalem, saying the gathering will call for the application of Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria before elections.

“Especially now is the time for a true Zionist decision,” the group said, calling for “the complete dismantling of the Oslo mindset” and opposition to any attempt to restore a Palestinian entity in the heart of the Land of Israel.
