According to Netanyahu, Israel had a mere 100-150 beepers at the outset of the conflict, a limitation that prevented the country from significantly reducing Hezbollah’s personnel at the war’s beginning.

This revelation comes in the wake of statements by former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, who accused Netanyahu of halting a planned military strike on Hezbollah after the October 7 attack. Netanyahu explained the situation during his interview, stating, “I'll tell you why we couldn't attack immediately — we had only about 100 or 150 beepers, more or less. That’s all we had compared to the thousands we later accumulated.” He emphasized that this shortage of beepers played a key role in his decision not to launch an offensive on Lebanon at that stage.

The term "beeper" refers to a specific type of communication device used by Israel's military to track enemy movements and coordinate attacks. These devices proved essential for targeting Hezbollah operatives, but Israel’s initial lack of them posed a major operational challenge.

A significant turning point came later in the conflict, particularly on September 17 and 18, 2024, when Israel orchestrated a coordinated beeper attack in Lebanon. This strategy involved detonating beepers and walkie-talkies belonging to Hezbollah operatives, with reports stating that around 1,500 militants were injured in the explosions. Many of these individuals suffered from vision loss or serious injuries to their heads and limbs, rendering them unable to continue their operations effectively.

The attack marked a turning point in the war, as it disrupted Hezbollah's communication network, severely impacting their ability to operate. Netanyahu's interview highlighted how, despite the setbacks in the early phases, Israel was able to turn the tide and gain the upper hand in the ongoing conflict.
