Terrorism is always just around the corner

Uncovered: IDF confirms Senior Iranian officials present in Lebanon before withdrawal

As the IDF prepares to execute its planned withdrawal from Lebanon next week, several senior Iranian officials are confirmed to be staying in the country alongside Hezbollah members, where they are reportedly assisting in reorganizing the group's infrastructure.

The development comes as part of the ceasefire agreement, which stipulates that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will transfer control over the enforcement of Hezbollah to the Lebanese army. However, the presence of Iranian officials complicates the situation.

The IDF's Northern Command has been tasked with reshaping the operational landscape in preparation for the withdrawal. As part of this effort, the IDF has been conducting extensive scans and clearing terrorist infrastructure in the area. The IDF is focused on ensuring that any threat from Hezbollah is minimized, and is preparing for a complete withdrawal, though the possibility of the ceasefire agreement being extended remains a consideration.

While the Lebanese army has been active in clearing certain Hezbollah facilities, such as warehouses containing ammunition and rockets, the IDF remains cautious about the progress made. The Northern Command emphasized that it does not fully trust the Lebanese army to handle the situation on its own and is taking responsibility for ensuring the arena is reshaped according to Israeli interests.

In terms of Hezbollah's capabilities, the IDF has reported that most of the group's production facilities have been destroyed, significantly affecting its ability to receive reinforcements from Syria. Additionally, Hezbollah's recruitment efforts have been severely hampered, and while Iran continues to fund the group, it has been unable to transfer significant weaponry.

Despite these challenges, the IDF has confirmed that there is currently no credible threat of a large-scale raid on the Galilee settlements. While Hezbollah may still be capable of launching smaller attacks, such as anti-tank missiles or short-range rockets, it is unlikely they can carry out a coordinated offensive of significant scale.

Moving forward, the IDF's Northern Command is expected to recommend to Israeli political leaders that the military adopt a policy of "weeding" — focusing on the targeted removal of Hezbollah infrastructure attempts to rebuild rather than accumulating large numbers of targets that might allow for the group's re-establishment. This approach is seen as essential to maintaining Israel’s security in the region.
