A dramatic incident unfolded earlier this week on erev Yom Kippur in Jerusalem's Sha'arei Chesed neighborhood when powerful winds ripped a sukkah from an apartment balcony and sent it plummeting onto the street below.
Security camera footage obtained by Kikar Hashabbat shows the quiet residential street when a pedestrian suddenly appears, walking along the sidewalk. Within a split second, he notices a massive shadow and debris falling from above and flees.
Moments later, the sukkah's walls, schach, and wooden beams came crashing down exactly where the man had been standing just seconds before.
Local residents who witnessed the incident recounted what happened: "We heard a tremendous crash. The sukkah just disintegrated in mid-air and flew down the building like a giant kite. Only with divine assistance and an open miracle did the pedestrian manage to escape in time, and no one was hurt."
