Itzik Bonzel, a candidate in the Likud primary and a bereaved father, published a scathing attack Monday on freed hostage Yocheved Lifshitz, following her recent comments about Miriam Adelson.
"Mrs. Yocheved, the one who pulled you out of the darkness of Gaza's tunnels was not Miriam Adelson, but hundreds of heroes who went into hell to bring you back alive, and some of them never returned," Bonzel wrote.
He continued: "Our sons paid with their lives and with the blood of every home in Israel so that you could sit safely in your house."
Bonzel's statement grew sharper: "How wretched, outrageous and disconnected are your words. In the face of these shameful statements, and the unbearable pain of losing the sons who fell for your sake, the fury simply knows no bounds."
The most severe part of his statement came next. Bonzel noted that he does not usually express himself in such terms, but wrote: "I have never written in this style, but would that there were a way to turn back the wheel and return you to the hands of Hamas, because in light of this display of ingratitude, it seems you simply did not deserve to have our precious and holy sons sacrifice their lives for you."
He went on to claim that Lifshitz's words stem from her opposition to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu: "Hatred of Netanyahu has driven you out of your mind, crushed every trace of morality and shame, and trampled the honor of those who rescued you at the cost of their lives. Silence in the face of such baseness is a sin that cannot be forgiven."
