The head of the Shin Bet is now working to arrange a meeting with the family of Haimanot Kasso, the Ethiopian girl who disappeared from a Tzfat absorption center in February 2024, following an urgent appeal from opposition leader MK Yair Lapid.

In a letter to the Shin Bet chief, Lapid described the uncertainty the family has endured since their daughter vanished without a trace. While acknowledging that the Shin Bet has been assisting Israel Police with certain aspects of the investigation, Lapid wrote that "the family's voice must be heard directly" and requested that the service head meet with them personally to hear their feelings and concerns.

Lapid argued in his letter that the case requires focused intervention using the Shin Bet's intelligence and technological capabilities. He emphasized that this is not a procedural matter but "a moral and national obligation of the highest order."

The opposition leader wrote that a personal meeting would allow the family to voice their anguish directly to the service chief and receive a responsible briefing on the search efforts. He requested that the meeting be scheduled as soon as possible.

According to journalist Benny Ashkenazi's report, the Shin Bet chief is now working to set up the meeting. No date has yet been announced for when it will take place.
