A crop-dusting helicopter crashed this morning (Friday) on a hillside near Kfar Qara in Wadi Ara and caught fire. Fire and rescue teams, MDA paramedics and police were called to the scene.
One person was extracted from the wreckage and treated in moderate condition and conscious. Rescue teams initially feared a second person was trapped in the aircraft.
MDA paramedics later pronounced one of the injured dead at the scene.
Israel Police said in a statement: "Police are currently handling a light aircraft crash incident on Route 65 near Kfar Qara. Officers from the Iron station were called to the scene and are working alongside emergency and rescue services.
"Following the incident, Route 65 has been closed to traffic in the area, and officers are directing vehicles to alternate routes. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and follow police instructions."
