A 10-year-old boy walking in Tiberias on Tuesday discovered an unexploded missile lying in a residential neighbourhood and immediately alerted security forces, according to Israel Police.

Police officers and bomb-disposal experts were dispatched urgently to the scene. The sappers sealed off the street and the surrounding area and are now preparing to carry out a controlled detonation of the missile to prevent a potential disaster.

Missile debris and unexploded ordnance falling in populated areas have become a significant security problem in recent months. Two years ago, police sappers neutralised a drone found in open ground near Yokneam, still carrying active explosives and spray. Civilians passing through the area by chance were the ones who discovered the hostile aircraft.

Police bomb-disposal teams routinely handle scenes where missiles and dangerous debris have fallen across the country. Their first task is to save lives: isolate the scene, move civilians away and quickly assess what dangers remain. Alongside the operational neutralisation, the sappers also collect and examine missile components for intelligence purposes.

Police are calling on the public to be cautious when encountering suspicious items and to summon police sappers immediately if they find munitions or debris. The phenomenon poses a real danger, and anyone exposed to such items must distance themselves and alert security forces at once.
