IDF forces from Division 91 located and exposed an operational Hezbollah hideout in southern Lebanon, stocked with dozens of weapons, ammunition, explosive charges and other combat equipment, within metres of a United Nations post whose mandate is to monitor military activity in the area and prevent precisely this kind of terror infrastructure.
The cache was discovered during ongoing operations in the sector. Troops found rifles, magazines, grenades, explosive devices and additional combat gear stored in the hideout, which sat in clear proximity to the UN position.
UNIFIL, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, has been deployed in southern Lebanon since 1978 under Security Council Resolution 425, with its mandate expanded after the 2006 war to monitor the cessation of hostilities and prevent Hezbollah from re-establishing a military presence south of the Litani River. The discovery underscores the gap between the force's stated mission and the reality on the ground, where Hezbollah has maintained extensive military infrastructure under the UN's watch.
The IDF has documented repeated instances of Hezbollah positions, tunnels and weapons caches located near or beneath UNIFIL posts throughout the current campaign in Lebanon. In several cases, terror infrastructure was found directly adjacent to UN facilities, raising questions about the effectiveness of international monitoring in the border zone.
