Blood libel from within
Fury over Yair Golan's claim IDF "kills babies as a hobby" on national broadcast
Israeli Democrats leader's words seen as betrayal by many across political spectrum.

Democrats Party chairman Yair Golan sparked nationwide outrage on Tuesday after making inflammatory remarks during an interview with Kan Reshet Bet radio, harshly criticizing Israel's war in Gaza.
“A sane country doesn’t kill babies as a hobby,” Golan stated, accusing Israel of losing its moral compass. “If we don’t return to sanity, Israel will become a pariah state, like South Africa once was.”
Golan further claimed, “A sane country doesn’t wage war against civilians or try to expel an entire population.” He also launched a scathing attack on the government, saying it is “full of people who have no connection to Judaism: vengeful types, lacking morality, judgment, and the ability to lead a nation during a crisis. They’re endangering our very existence.”
The backlash was swift. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Golan’s comments as “reckless incitement” against Israel’s soldiers and the state itself. “The IDF is the most moral army in the world,” Netanyahu said. “Golan, who has previously compared Israel to the Nazis and encouraged refusal to serve, has now reached a new low.”
Netanyahu added, “While we are engaged in a multi-front war and fighting to free our hostages and defeat Hamas, Golan and his radical allies are echoing the most vile antisemitic blood libels against our soldiers and our country. This is moral collapse at its worst.”
