“With great sadness in my heart, I must share this terrible news… Sadly, our lead singer Jock McDonald died last night in Ireland, apparently due to a freak swimming accident.”
Pattin added that McDonald’s children had asked him to inform the public:
“His family and all the Bollocks Brothers are in shock… This won’t be easy for us. Please, don’t try to call us today, give us some time. Rest in peace, my friend. I will miss you.”
Before his sudden passing, the punk rock star had been actively working on a new single and upcoming album.
McDonald co-founded the legendary punk band The Bollocks Brothers in 1979, which went on to build a prolific legacy with nine studio albums, four live recordings, and 28 singles released over the years.
The singer's death adds to a somber week for the cultural world, coming near the tragic loss of actor Alon Aboutboul, who collapsed and died following a swim at Habonim Beach in Israel.
