Recent polling ahead of New York City’s mayoral race shows a mixed picture, with declared Muslim and outspokenly anti-Israel candidate Zohran Mamdani losing momentum. While he remains competitive for a first-round win, the latest surveys suggest a clear path to defeat if the race moves to a runoff.

After months of campaigning, during which Mamdani led most polls, the newest results, released just before early voting, mark his weakest position yet. Once holding double-digit leads over rivals, he has now dropped sharply and is nearly tied with moderate candidate Andrew Cuomo.

In the latest poll, Mamdani holds 40.6% of support, Cuomo 34%, and Republican candidate Curtis Silva 24%. Since a candidate needs over 40% to win outright in the first round and accounting for a margin of error of roughly 4.5%, a runoff is likely.

If a second round occurs, most Republican votes currently backing Silva are expected to shift decisively to Cuomo, significantly boosting his chances of defeating Mamdani in the runoff.

The results also highlight internal divisions among the Satmar Hasidic community over support for Mamdani, further complicating his path to victory.
