Former US attorney general Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after leaving the Justice Department in April, according to a report.
Bondi, 60, underwent treatment and is recovering, a source told Axios. Katie Miller, a former White House staffer and podcast host married to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, reposted the report on X and wrote that Bondi had been “quietly kicking cancer’s ass the last few weeks.”
The health update was reported as Axios also said President Donald Trump had appointed Bondi to serve on the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, where she is expected to help coordinate between the federal government and technology executives on artificial intelligence policy.
The council is co-chaired by White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks and White House science adviser Michael Kratsios.
Bondi left the Justice Department in early April after Trump removed her as attorney general. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has served as acting attorney general since her departure.
At the time, Trump praised Bondi as “a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend,” saying she had overseen a major crime crackdown and would move to an important private-sector role.
Bondi said after her exit that she remained “eternally grateful” for Trump’s trust and called her time leading the Justice Department “the honor of a lifetime.”
Fox News said it had reached out to the White House and Justice Department for comment.
