BREAKING: Pro-Israel NYC Mayor crushes the opposition in brutal election showdown
Simon, a mixed-breed dog with Jewish pride, has been elected as the Honorary New York City Dog Mayor. In a ceremony that took place in near-zero temperatures on January 28, 2025, Simon was sworn in, sporting a winter coat and tie, making him look every bit the distinguished politician.

In an event that captured the hearts and headlines of New York City, Simon, a charming Basset Cattle Dog mix, was officially sworn in as the city's second honorary Dog Mayor on a cold Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2025.
The ceremony, held amidst a backdrop of freezing temperatures, was not just a testament to Simon's charm but also highlighted the unique and somewhat chaotic nature of this year's election, marked by a bizarre cryptocurrency scandal.
Sophie Vershbow, Simon's proud owner, shared her gratitude at the inauguration, stating, "I am grateful, as is Simon, for the opportunity to use this platform for the next two years to promote animal fostering and adoption in New York City as well as to raise awareness and fundraising for all of the amazing organizations on the ground already doing this work." Simon himself was quite the dapper mayor, adorned in a winter coat and tie for his official swearing-in at City Hall.
The ceremony was not without its moments of levity, as New York City's Public Advocate, Jumaane Williams, officiated with a touch of humor, peppering the event with dog puns. He humorously asked Simon, "Do you promise to uphold the office of New York City dog mayor with liberty and, yes, dog-mity, for all?" before symbolically shaking paws and adorning Simon with a top hat.
However, the path to Simon's mayoral seat was anything but straightforward. The election was mired in controversy when cryptocurrency enthusiasts attempted to influence the outcome by creating a digital currency, BERT coin, in support of another candidate, Bertram the Pomeranian. This led to allegations of vote buying and a significant amount of negativity, prompting some candidates, like Enzo the Shih Tzu, to withdraw from the race. This chaos inadvertently cleared the path for Simon, who then clinched the title in early November.
Sadly, Bertram, who was initially appointed as Deputy Mayor, passed away shortly after the election, leading to Pepper the mini chocolate Dachshund being sworn in as the new Deputy Mayor alongside Simon.
Simon now takes over from Sally Long Dog, the inaugural Dog Mayor, who left a legacy of activism, earnestness, and a bit of lethargy, according to Dog Mayor organizer Stephen Calabria. The election saw participation from 15 dogs across New York's five boroughs, making it a truly city-wide affair.
As Simon embarks on his two-year term, the focus will be on continuing Sally's work while bringing new attention to animal welfare issues in NYC, leveraging the unique platform of being the city's Dog Mayor.
This tale of canine politics, covered by Caitlin McCormack for the New York Post, not only brings a smile but also showcases how even in the world of dogs, politics can be both chaotic and heartwarming.
