Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan launched a sharp attack on Israel during his address to the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, calling on world nations to recognize a Palestinian state and condemning the war in Gaza. In response, members of the Israeli delegation to the UN walked out of the hall in protest.
Erdoğan referenced the United States' decision to bar Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas from attending the UN General Assembly, calling it "an injustice. We will make the voice of the Palestinian people heard before the world, and I call on all nations to recognize the Palestinian state. With G-d's help, we will see good days when an independent Palestinian state is established, based on the 1967 borders, with territorial contiguity and with eastern Jerusalem as its capital."
