Nepal is reeling from a new wave of deadly floods and landslides across the mountainous nation, weeks after a devastating flood in late August killed more than 1,400 people. According to Nepal's disaster management authority, at least 12 people have been killed since Thursday, and seven others are listed as missing. Local reports on Monday put the death toll in Baglung district alone at 10.
The disaster has struck multiple regions of the country, with heavy rains causing widespread damage to infrastructure and buildings, and authorities have warned of possible flash floods in 49 of Nepal's 77 districts. In the Galkot area of Baglung district, footage shared on social media shows a government building being swept away by surging floodwaters. The video captures the moment the two-story red-and-white structure tilts sharply before being completely washed away.
Separate footage from Mustang district documented a massive landslide near Lete, in which an enormous section of mountainside collapsed into the Kaligandaki River in real time, disrupting the river's flow.
