Zelensky: Russia ignoring Trump ceasefire

Ukrainian president says Kyiv has held fire on Russian energy sites since Trump's announcement two days ago, but Moscow has struck 19 Ukrainian regions in that time: The Russians sent a clear message they have no intention of refraining from attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that Kyiv has refrained from striking Russian energy infrastructure since US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" two days ago, but accused Moscow of continuing to hit Ukrainian power facilities in defiance of the American declaration.

"Ukraine has not attacked Russian oil refineries or energy infrastructure in general over the past two days, since the US president called for a halt to attacks on energy facilities," Zelensky said. "However, Russia has not respected President Trump's demand. In these two days, the Russians attacked both our energy facilities and our critical infrastructure. Nineteen regions of Ukraine were attacked in just the past two days. In this way, the Russians sent a clear message that they have no intention of refraining from attacks against our country."

Zelensky added a message directed at Washington, in the shadow of recent American steps perceived as aiding Russia, including an agreement to ease sanctions on Russian oil. "Our position remains unchanged: Ukraine is ready for reciprocal steps that will reduce escalation, but effective pressure on Russia is required to bring about this de-escalation," he explained. "Wars end when the aggressor understands it no longer has the capacity to prolong the conflict. Global pressure on Russia contributes precisely to that, to bringing peace closer."

"Direct or indirect support for Russia, delaying aid to Ukraine, and thwarting efforts to protect human lives from ballistic missiles, all of these are actions that certainly do not serve peace," he concluded. "We need a strong America, a strong Europe, and strong partners. Thank you to all who truly help us!"
