President Donald Trump spoke with reporters during a White House ceremony and, alongside remarks on the war in Ukraine and the firing of the US ambassador to Greece, offered new details on the situation in the Middle East.
According to Trump, behind-the-scenes talks with Iran are still ongoing, but he is "holding all the cards," as he put it. The president explained that despite the conversations with Iran, his decision-making in the campaign against Tehran is entirely independent of Iranian considerations and that he is "on the verge of a final decision" regarding Iran.
When asked about Israel's election, Trump maintained a degree of diplomatic neutrality but suggested he might abandon it if he feels there is an ideal candidate he wants to work with.
Trump said: "Maybe...ultimately, we'll support a candidate."
