Joe Rogan Warns of Sharia Law: "America Must Defend Religious Freedom"

Rogan said Muslims should be free to worship in America, but argued that religious law must never be imposed on cities, women, or non-Muslims.

Podcast host Joe Rogan has voiced strong concerns about what he described as organized attempts by some Muslim groups to introduce Sharia law in American communities, arguing that such efforts threaten core U.S. principles of individual freedom and women's rights.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience with actor Scott Eastwood, Rogan stated that certain factions are actively working to change local laws in U.S. cities. He specifically pointed to the desire among many practicing Muslims for Sharia-based governance.

“There are groups that are trying to take over cities and change the laws,” Rogan said. “A lot of practicing Muslims would like Sharia law.”

Eastwood responded by highlighting cultural differences, noting that “their culture puts in values that degrade women and their rights.” Rogan agreed, adding, “They absolutely degrade women, but that’s their culture. They want women to dress a certain way and we have to stop it from spreading.”

Rogan emphasized that the core issue lies in the imposition of religious rules on others rather than private practice. “The problem with Sharia law is that they push their religion on other people,” he said. “I don’t care if that’s what they want to practice, but they shouldn’t be allowed to take over a city and force people to follow their specific religion.”

He contrasted this with American values of religious liberty. “You should be allowed to wear whatever you want to wear and have the freedom to pick whatever religion you do or don’t wish to follow,” Rogan stated. “You’re supposed to be able to practice whatever religion you want here. That’s what makes America beautiful.”

Eastwood concurred, describing the scenario as one where “things fall apart.”

The comments come amid ongoing national debates over immigration, cultural integration, and local governance in cities with growing Muslim populations, such as Dearborn, Michigan, where a Muslim mayor recently banned pride flags from public display. Rogan and Eastwood framed the discussion around the tension between respecting religious freedom and preventing any single faith from overriding secular laws or individual rights.

Rogan has previously addressed similar topics on his podcast, often stressing the importance of maintaining the United States’ foundational commitment to personal liberty over any form of religious enforcement.
