Jewish Man Charged in Plot to Assassinate Prominent NYC Pro-Palestinian Activist

Federal authorities and the NYPD have thwarted a violent assassination plot targeting Nardine Kiswani, a high-profile leader of the pro-Palestinian movement in New York City. The suspect, Alexander Heifler, 26, of Hoboken, New Jersey, was arrested Thursday following an intensive undercover operation.

The Plot: Firebombs and a Fast Escape

According to the federal indictment filed in Newark, Heifler’s plan was in its final stages when law enforcement moved in.

The Targets: Heifler allegedly planned to firebomb Kiswani’s home and vehicles using eight Molotov cocktails.

The Infiltration: An undercover NYPD officer successfully infiltrated a pro-Israel activist chat group where Heifler was active. The officer was reportedly present and even assisted Heifler in assembling the incendiary devices at his Hoboken apartment just moments before the arrest.

Affiliation: Heifler is a member of the Jewish Defense League (JDL), an organization classified by the FBI as a domestic terrorist group.

The Exit Strategy: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani revealed that Heifler intended to flee to Israel immediately following the attack to evade prosecution.

The Target: Nardine Kiswani

Kiswani, 31, is the co-founder of Within Our Lifetime, a group that has organized massive, often controversial, anti-Israel protests.

Kiswani has publicly called for a "Global Intifada" and expressed support for Hamas and Hezbollah, leading to frequent clashes with pro-Israel organizations.

Following the news of the plot, Kiswani stated that federal agents told her the threat was "imminent" but vowed that she would not stop speaking for the Palestinian people.

Mayor Mamdani, who has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause, held a press conference condemning the "violent extremism" targeting activists.

"Our city must answer hate with solidarity," Mamdani stated. "No person should face violence because of their political beliefs."

Heifler appeared in court wearing a kippah and is currently being held without bail. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
