West Ham United released an unusual statement Thursday following chants heard during Israeli winger Manor Solomon's debut for the club. Some supporters sang "Manor Solomon hates Palestine" during the match, prompting the English club to label the chant as containing an "anti-Palestinian message."
The incident occurred during West Ham's away fixture at Turf Moor, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Club officials said they were aware of the chant directed at Solomon, who recently joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
The statement was published ahead of West Ham's first home match of the Championship season, when they are scheduled to face Charlton on Saturday. The club asked supporters "to remember the responsibility we all have to represent the club in the right way," emphasizing that every fan serves as an ambassador for the team.
West Ham addressed the diversity within its fanbase, stating: "Regardless of their background, every supporter within our diverse fanbase should be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse. We remain committed to ensuring everyone feels safe, respected and that they belong."
Club officials acknowledged the importance of songs and chants as part of the matchday experience, while calling on fans to refrain from chants that might be offensive to others.
