The speculation comes just days after the death of his father, Jorge Messi, who passed away last weekend at 68. Following the loss, Messi flew to Argentina to be with family in Rosario, the city where he was born and where he first took up the sport.

Argentine journalist Leo Paradiso addressed the possibility of a transfer on the television channel AmericaTV, saying: "He felt the need to be close to his father, that's the information we have right now." However, any move to Argentina would face contractual complications, as Messi is signed with Inter Miami through December 2028, meaning a return to Newell's would require negotiating his exit from the American club.

Over the years, numerous reports have surfaced about Messi's possible desire to end his career in his homeland at the club where he started. However, after joining Inter Miami following Argentina's 2022 World Cup victory, the prospect of playing again in Argentina seemed to have faded.
