Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has reignited speculation about flying cars after responding to a social media complaint on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. When a user lamented that the world was promised flying cars but instead received "AI for everyone," Musk replied simply: "You will get flying cars."
While Musk didn't explicitly mention Tesla or any specific vehicle model, his comment has renewed interest in the long-delayed Tesla Roadster electric sports car, first unveiled in 2017. Industry observers have long speculated that the vehicle might incorporate hovering or limited flight capabilities.
Musk has previously hinted that the Roadster could feature a special performance package developed in collaboration with SpaceX, his aerospace company. The system would reportedly include approximately ten compressed gas thrusters designed to enhance acceleration, braking, and cornering. In past statements, Musk suggested the technology might enable the car to "hover or skip above the ground."
Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief designer, recently indicated the Roadster is coming "very soon," though he provided no specific timeline. According to the company, serial production may not begin until 2027 or 2028.
Despite Musk's latest comment, Tesla has not officially confirmed that the Roadster will be a flying car. It remains unclear whether the vehicle will feature actual flight capability, brief hovering, or some other advanced technology.
