"We were Deceived"

Kan 11 in an Unusual Message: We were Deceived; The Article has been Removed

A week after the article about a man who all his friends were killed at the party in Re'im and he was the only one who survived, Kan 11 admits that this is a false story: "Everyone was probably fooled, including us."

Last week Kan 11 published an article with Niko Ostroga, who according to the article celebrated at the party in Re'im with about 30 of his friends and is the only one who managed to survive the massacre by the terrorist organization Hamas.

The article raised quite a few questions online about how the story sounds inauthentic with many holes in the plot, now Kan 11 are publishing an apology message in which they claim that they were misled.

Last week we broadcast here an article about the mental struggle of the survivors of the party in Re'im. One of the interviewees was Niko Ostroga. After the broadcast, it became clear that the story told by Niko was not true.

Before the broadcast, Niko's story was verified by some of the producers at the party, the caregivers of the compound and some of the survivors. For six weeks, Niko received treatments and donations at the centers established for survivors of the Nova Party. The interview with him took place inside a house that opened its doors to survivors, and the professional staff present at the scene believed that he was indeed a survivor.

Everyone must have been fooled, including us. During the work on the article Niko provided us with photos, supposedly of his friends who were murdered. After the broadcast it became clear that the people who appear in the photos were not present at the party, they are healthy and intact and we apologize for the heartache caused to them.

On Sunday, initial information arrived about flaws in the article - and it was removed from the networks. Since then Niko has not responded to our inquiries either.

We draw lessons from the case and apologize to the viewers for the publication.
