Bill Maher Blasts Rising Antisemitism in Fiery Monologue | WATCH
"It’s the inconsistency." Bill Maher blasts progressives, Gen Z, and the political right for blatant hypocrisy and a shocking rise in anti-Jewish hate.

In a rare, no-holds-barred monologue that has gone viral across Jewish social media, comedian and political commentator Bill Maher delivered one of his strongest-ever defenses of Israel and the Jewish people, sharply condemning the surge in antisemitism on both the political left and right.
Speaking on his HBO show Real Time this week, Maher marked Israel’s 78th birthday with a segment titled “No Jews, No News,” in which he accused critics of Israel of blatant hypocrisy and outright Jew-hatred disguised as political commentary.
“If You Think Israel Is the Monster Country…”
Maher opened by stating plainly:
“Since yesterday was Israel’s birthday… everyone must either wish her a happy birthday or admit they’re anti-Semitic.”
He went on to expose what he called the selective outrage against the Jewish state:
“China, Russia, Sudan, Iran, Myanmar, Haiti, the Congo, North Korea - all way worse. And that’s how you know it’s antisemitism. It’s the inconsistency.”
The longtime liberal host took direct aim at progressive circles, TikTok-influenced Gen Z, and academia for embracing rhetoric that echoes classic antisemitic tropes. He mocked “Queers for Palestine” activists and highlighted disturbing polls showing young Americans expressing more sympathy for Hamas than for Israel.
Maher didn’t spare the right either, criticizing Tucker Carlson’s platforming of Holocaust deniers and figures like Dan Bilzerian, who openly called for “exterminating Israel.”
Strong Words on Campus and Media
The comedian lambasted university professors for statements he compared to Nazi propaganda, quoting one California professor who called Zionists “bloodthirsty animals” and another who described Israelis as having a “vulgarity of character that is bone deep.”
He noted the alarming rise in antisemitic incidents, revealing that anti-Jewish hate crimes now outpace anti-Muslim ones by a ratio of 9 to 1.
“Jew hatred isn’t just acceptable now. It’s cool. Celebrities love it and make it trendy. It’s the new Che Guevara t-shirt.”
A Message to Democrats
In a direct challenge to his own political side, Maher urged Democrats to confront the antisemitism growing within their base:
“Democrats, where are you? If any other minority group was being talked about this way, you’d break out the Kente cloth and have 10 benefit concerts.”
He also criticized Democratic presidential hopefuls for distancing themselves from AIPAC, saying it only gives ammunition to real antisemites.
Why This Monologue Is Resonating
For many in the Jewish community, Maher’s monologue, delivered by a prominent, non-Orthodox, liberal Jewish voice, feels like a long-overdue moment of clarity from the mainstream left. The segment has been widely shared with comments like “Bill Maher just said what we’ve all been thinking” and “Finally, someone with a platform is telling the truth.”
The audience in the studio sat in notable silence through much of the monologue, proving how uncomfortable these truths have become even in liberal circles.
As antisemitic incidents continue to rise worldwide and Israel faces unrelenting scrutiny, Maher’s message was clear: the Jewish state was founded precisely because Jews need a safe haven and current events prove just how necessary that remains.
