Police in Düsseldorf have released a photo of two men suspected of beating a Jewish man who was walking along the Rhine with his girlfriend, wearing a kippa and a sweater bearing the letters IDF.
The image, published about a week after the attack, shows two young men standing on an escalator. Police are asking anyone who can identify them to come forward.
The victim is a 35-year-old German Jew. He was out on the riverbank on a Tuesday evening when two women approached him and hurled anti-Israel insults at him, police said. One of the women reportedly called him a "child killer."
Two men then joined in and attacked him, leaving him lightly injured. Three witnesses tried to step in, and one of them was also hurt.
Investigators believe the attack was antisemitic because the victim was wearing a kippa and a black sweater with the insignia of the Israel Defense Forces. Several witnesses and video footage back up his account. Germany's state security police, the unit that handles politically motivated crime, has taken over the case.
Police are looking for four people in all, the two women and the two men, and had earlier published descriptions of them.
Düsseldorf's Jewish community said it was shocked by the attack.
