Philly Jews overwhelm anti-Israel protest

Anti-Israel groups planned a march against Jewish-owned businesses in downtown Philadelphia, but were met by hundreds, possibly thousands, of Jews and Israel supporters who filled the streets and turned the day into a show of strength

Antisemitic demonstration

Anti-Israel protest groups organized a march against Jewish-owned businesses in downtown Philadelphia, labeling them "Zionist supporters," but the reception they received was not what they expected.

Hundreds of American Jews, joined by many Israel supporters, turned out for a counter-demonstration against the antisemitic march that had singled out businesses because of their owners' Jewish identity. While some had feared the protest would threaten the businesses and force them to close, the Jewish community arrived ready to stand its ground.

Hundreds, and possibly thousands, of American Jews and supporters of the Jewish community and Israel gathered in the central square in demonstrations that dominated the space and left the anti-Israel protesters on the back foot.

At some points during the counter-protest, Jews armed themselves with cartons of eggs and threw them at the antisemitic demonstrators when they attempted to threaten or intimidate Jewish business owners.

In a surprising and encouraging turn, the Jewish businesses saw a significant increase in sales after many supporters came to shop at them as a sign of solidarity and support, with footage and reports showing lines stretching beyond the end of the block.
