Three pro-Palestinian activists were arrested in Berlin on Sunday after climbing a flagpole outside the Reichstag, home of the German parliament, and replacing the German flag with a Palestinian one.
The incident occurred during a demonstration organized by the group "Peacefully Against Genocide," which was protesting Israel's military operation in Gaza, according to the Anadolu news agency.
The activists scaled the flagpole at the front of the Reichstag building, which houses the Bundestag, Germany's parliament. They removed the national flag and raised the Palestinian banner in its place.
German police intervened and detained three individuals involved in the stunt, aged 20, 22, and 32. Authorities have not yet disclosed what charges the suspects face.
The incident comes amid a wave of pro-Palestinian demonstrations across European cities, where activists are demanding that governments halt arms shipments to Israel and increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Right-wing figures in Germany mocked the incident, warning that mass migration is bringing the country closer to the day a Palestinian flag really does replace the German one.
