Latest blow to Haley's chances: Trump takes her home state

Former US President Donald Trump won the Republican primary in Nikki Haley's home state of South Carolina. Although her chances of winning are slim, Haley has made it clear that she will not leave the race.

Former US President Donald Trump claimed the Republican Party primary in South Carolina - rival candidate Nikki Haley's home state. Haley served as governor of the state between 2011 and 2017. Despite the loss, Haley made it clear that she would not drop out of the race.

At the end of the vote counting, Trump won 59.8% of the votes, compared to 39.5% percent for Haley. Despite withdrawing from the race last month, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis still received 0.4% of the vote in the current primaries.

Following the results, Trump took 44 of South Carolina's 50 delegates, and now stands at 107 delegates in total compared to 17 for Haley.

The next primaries will be held this Tuesday in the state of Michigan, but the candidates' eyes are on next week, when the votes will be held in 20 different states - including California and Texas, the two states with the largest number of delegates.

The latest polls indicate that Trump will be victorious in all the states of the Union - and Haley's chance of getting the nod as the GOP candidate for the White House seems extremely small at this point.
