eBay is set to close its operations in Israel. Employees were informed this morning of the company’s decision to shut down its Israeli activity entirely by the first quarter of 2026. The move will result in the dismissal of all employees at the local site, which currently employs over 200 people.

The decision follows a series of layoffs in recent years that included cuts to most of the marketing and sales departments, as well as the closure of several development initiatives. The company’s R&D center in Netanya was established in 2005 following eBay’s $620 million acquisition of Shopping.com, and was later expanded through the purchase of Israeli startup Gift Project.

In an official statement, the company said: "As a global company, eBay continuously evaluates its operational model to align with long-term strategic goals and optimize support for customers and employees. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our office in Israel during the first quarter of 2026. We remain committed to providing ongoing support and guidance to our employees throughout this transition."

The closure marks the end of a two-decade presence in the Israeli tech scene, signaling a shift in eBay’s global strategy and footprint.
