Jordan Border Drug Smuggling: Cases, Arrests & Security

Israeli prosecutors filed serious charges Wednesday against three men from the northern village of Kafr Matzar, aged 26, 30, and 41, following a joint investigation by the Northern District Police and the Shin Bet. The men are accused of violating state sovereignty, exporting dangerous drugs, and drug possession.

According to the investigation, the three suspects obtained 50 kilograms of suspected hashish, valued at several million shekels, from drug suppliers with the intention of exporting it to Jordan. On July 15, 2026, the defendants drove a van to a collection point where they picked up ten packages containing the hashish.

After collecting the packages, the group drove to the eastern border fence with Jordan and threw the bundles over to the Jordanian side, where they were retrieved as prearranged. Each of the three men was to receive approximately 100,000 shekels ($27,000) for the smuggling operation.

Attorney Ohad Cohen from the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed the indictment in the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil District Court.

The operation by the Northern District's border unit is part of a broader effort by Israeli police and security forces to prevent the smuggling of weapons and illegal drugs across the borders with Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.

In recent months, authorities have uncovered several significant smuggling networks operating along the eastern border. In a similar recent case, six residents of the Negev were arrested on suspicion of smuggling dozens of weapons and large quantities of hashish from the Egyptian and Jordanian borders.
