Security around Deputy Minister Almog Cohen and his family was significantly increased Shabbos following concrete and unusual threats against him and his relatives. Cohen received messages containing explicit murder threats. A guard has been posted near his home, and family members are receiving close police escort.
The Magen unit in the Prime Minister's Office has been assigned the task, with the Shin Bet and Israel Police reinforcing the security. Cohen's office said in a statement: "We do not comment on security aspects of the deputy minister and his family. Deputy Minister Cohen will continue to serve the citizens of the State of Israel without any concern."
Earlier this week, an indictment was filed against Raz Weinberger, 49, of Ein HaChoresh, for 21 posts on X. According to the indictment, the posts included calls to murder Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, ministers, Knesset members and government supporters. In one post, written in response to a post on Cohen's account, Weinberger allegedly wrote: "Your parents should watch as they behead you and throw your head to the Gazans to play football with."
