Harry and Meghan Returning to Britain

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to relocate to the UK with their children after years of estrangement from the royal family, sources tell The New York Times

 Prince Harry and King Charles

Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, and their two children are expected to relocate to Britain in the coming weeks, according to two sources familiar with the couple's decision who spoke to The New York Times.

The move represents a dramatic turn for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were stripped of their royal titles following a bitter falling-out with the royal family, events that dominated British headlines for an extended period.

The surprising relocation comes six years after the couple left Britain for the United States, following a sharp conflict with other members of the royal household.

According to the report, the couple has already enrolled both of their children, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet, in British educational institutions so they can begin the school year in September.

Harry's father, King Charles III, was informed of the decision last Sunday, with a source close to the matter noting that the King welcomes the opportunity to spend more time with his younger son and grandchildren.

Despite the move, there will be no change to Harry and Meghan's official status, and they will continue to hold the position of private citizens who will not perform official duties on behalf of the royal household. At this stage, it has not been clarified which property the family will occupy upon their return, and the matter was not discussed during the Duke and Duchess's visit to Britain last summer.

The return to Britain closes a chapter of self-imposed exile that was accompanied by mutual accusations that drew international attention.

In 2021, Harry was stripped of his honorary military titles and royal patronages. The couple announced their intention to "step back" from their official roles, a move that led to ongoing tensions that included a memoir, media interviews, and complaints about the lack of armed security.

Though not explicitly stated for understandable reasons, it is believed that Prince Harry wishes to spend more time with his father, who is suffering from a serious illness, the details of which remain unclear to the general public.
