A significant transition is underway at Kol Torah Yeshiva in Jerusalem ahead of the High Holidays. Rabbi Yeshayahu Rotenberg, who has served as chazan for the Musaf prayers on both days of Rosh Hashanah for decades, will not lead services this year at the historic yeshiva located in the Beit Vegan neighborhood.
Rabbi Rotenberg, who also serves as rabbi of the Gra synagogue in Beit Vegan, has long been identified with the High Holiday prayer services at Kol Torah. His voice became an integral part of the Rosh Hashanah experience for generations of students and alumni, earning widespread appreciation from the yeshiva community and neighborhood residents alike.
According to reports, Rabbi Rotenberg had raised the possibility of stepping down in recent years, and recently informed the yeshiva that he no longer has the strength to continue serving as chazan for the demanding High Holiday services.
