Mrs. Shoshana Roza Zumer z”l, widow of the renowned Vizhnitzer chassid Rav Tzvi Halevi Zumer zt”l, was niftar Monday morning in Yerushalayim at an advanced age.
Rav Zumer zt”l was among the elder chassidim of Vizhnitz and a figure of distinction in the Yerushalayim community. Throughout their life together, Mrs. Zumer stood devotedly at her husband’s side, and together they raised their family with complete emunah in tzaddikim and devotion to the ways of Yisrael Saba.
Their home was one of temimus and avodas Hashem. Rav Zumer zt”l composed the well-known Vizhnitzer nigun on the words “Tamim tihyeh im Hashem Elokecha,” expressing the call to walk with Hashem simply, without questioning what the future will bring.
That message of temimus was reflected in Mrs. Zumer’s own life, which was marked by profound loss. More than two decades ago, she lost her daughter, the tzadekes Rebbetzin Weiss z”l. Before the levaya, she turned to her husband and said, “The Satan wants us to be angry now at Hakadosh Baruch Hu - let us show him that we are not angry.”
The couple accepted the bitter din with love.
After her husband’s petira, Mrs. Zumer suffered another devastating loss with the passing of her son, Rav Kasriel Shaul Halevi Zumer zt”l, who served as mashgiach ruchani in Yeshivas Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak. When her daughter-in-law, wife of her son yblch”t Rav Meir, was later niftar, she continued to bear her suffering with emunah and to instill those values in her family.
Despite the many losses she endured, Mrs. Zumer z”l was zocheh to see a blessed generation of descendants, including a fifth generation walking in the ways of Hashem.
She is survived yblch”t by her son Rav Meir Zumer, among the distinguished chassidim of Vizhnitz-Skvulen, and by her daughters, married to prominent rabbanim, dayanim and marbitzei Torah.
The levaya will leave Monday at 3:00 p.m. from the Shamgar funeral home in Yerushalayim for Har Hamenuchos, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and son zt”l.
Tehei nishmasa tzrurah bitzror hachaim.
