In a devastating loss to the Jewish community, five ultra orthodox Israelis were taken in a tragic car accident near Ouarzazate, Morocco while visiting the graves of tzaddikim (righteous sages) in the region. The accident occurred early Friday morning when their vehicle overturned during their journey.

ZAKA's International Unit reports that the crash took place at approximately 10:00 AM local time. Tragically, all five passengers passed away at the scene due to the severity of the accident. Emergency response teams are working to ensure proper respect for the deceased.

The group had traveled to Morocco to pray at the burial sites of revered Jewish sages, continuing the meaningful tradition of visiting holy sites for blessing and inspiration.

Representatives from the Israeli Foreign Ministry are working closely with ZAKA to handle all necessary arrangements with proper dignity and to facilitate the return of the deceased to Israel for burial as quickly as possible, particularly given the approaching Shabbat.

"From the moment we received word of this terrible tragedy, we have been working non-stop with the authorities in Morocco," said Haim Wingarten, Deputy Director of ZAKA. "Our priority is to ensure proper dignity for the deceased and to assist the families in bringing their loved ones to burial in Israel."

The Chief Rabbi of Safed, where some of the deceased reportedly lived, has announced that the city's charitable organizations are mobilizing to support the bereaved families. The municipality's social services are preparing to provide all necessary assistance during this difficult time.

At the request of rabbinical authorities and officials, the names of the deceased are being withheld until all families can be properly notified.

May their memory be for a blessing.
