Egyptian authorities announced Wednesday that the death toll from a bus accident in southern Sinai has climbed to 17, with an additional 29 people injured and hospitalized following the crash that occurred earlier in the day.
According to reports in Jordanian media, the bus was traveling from resort towns in the Al-Saadah area toward Amman, Jordan's capital, carrying 43 passengers. Among those on board were 22 Jordanian nationals, and Jordanian sources confirmed that 10 of the fatalities held Jordanian citizenship.
The deadly accident took place Wednesday morning when the bus overturned while traveling on the Dahab-Nuweiba highway in southern Sinai.
Emergency services dispatched 20 ambulances to the scene to evacuate casualties and provide first aid. The injured were transported to medical facilities for treatment, though authorities have not yet released detailed information about their conditions, stating only that "medical teams continue to monitor their status."
Egypt's Health Minister, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, announced he had ordered hospitals in Sinai to raise their alert levels. "The victims will receive all necessary treatment. Local teams are working at full capacity, and developments are being monitored continuously," he said.
