Russian President Vladimir Putin met Tuesday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and publicly acknowledged for the first time that Moscow is supplying Tehran with "necessary equipment" during its ongoing confrontation with the United States. Putin also pledged that Russia would help Iran counter the naval blockade imposed by Washington.
During the meeting, Putin referenced a ceasefire agreement and memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States last June. "Russia welcomed the ceasefire and the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States in June," Putin said. "Unfortunately, the agreement was fragile and unstable. During this difficult period, we are trying to provide you with the necessary assistance. We have discussed this issue with you, and we are supplying you with the necessary equipment."
Pezeshkian responded by expressing gratitude for Russian support. "We appreciate your support, especially during the war and this difficult period," the Iranian president said. "What they [the United States] are doing is illegal, and that is why we are fighting against this unilateral attack. Our relationship is strategic, and I am confident that we will prevail."
