Bar-Ilan lecturer indicted for planning mass terror attacks against Arab citizens
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment against a mathematics lecturer at Bar-Ilan University, a man in his 60s from Petah Tikva, for planning a mass terror attack targeting hundreds of Arab Israeli citizens, including Bedouins, as well as Arabs in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. Over three years, from early 2023 until his arrest two weeks ago, the defendant developed a detailed plan called "AYAT" (Hebrew acronym for "The People Will Carry Out Transfer"), motivated by nationalist-ideological considerations. The plan intensified following the "Guardian of the Walls" riots and the "Swords of Iron" war, aiming to cause mass casualties and force Arabs to flee to Jordan, Lebanon, and Gaza. He faces charges including preparation to commit terrorism, extortion by threats, and obstruction of justice. The prosecution is seeking his detention until trial concludes. A court-ordered publication ban remains on the defendant's name.
