Segal: "How many were in Ben-Gurion?"

"How many people were in Ben-Gurion on Wednesday at 11 in the morning? How many of them would have died in a passenger-plane crash on the terminal? Chilling." That was analyst Amit Segal's response to the dramatic revelations from the interrogation of the Omani co-pilot whose mid-air attack was thwarted.

According to Segal's report, the Omani co-pilot confessed under interrogation that he had planned to crash the passenger jet directly into the terminal building at Ben-Gurion Airport in the final seconds before landing, a timing at which the aircraft could no longer be intercepted.

Because of the meticulous planning and the aim to strike at the last possible moment, the co-pilot attacked the captain only when they were in Jordanian airspace, very close to Israeli territory.

The dramatic incident ended with a miracle and extraordinary resourcefulness, after Israeli passengers on the plane noticed what was happening, broke into the cockpit, neutralised the Omani co-pilot and prevented a catastrophic disaster.
