Two hours before Yom Kippur began, a restricted security cabinet meeting convened to discuss the security situation in Judea and Samaria.
During the session, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir raised the issue of applying the death penalty to terrorists, arguing that a current case represents the first instance that meets the criteria for implementing the law.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed interest in the matter and requested responses from IDF officials regarding the feasibility of applying the law in the present case.
The IDF Chief of Staff did not participate in the discussion. IDF representatives who attended the meeting indicated that from their perspective, there is no impediment to implementation.
Following the exchange, it was decided that the security cabinet will hold an additional professional session on the matter, with the Chief of Staff's participation, to examine how to proceed with implementation.
