Classified F-35 stealth parts held in Hong Kong after shipping error
China has been holding classified F-35 components in Hong Kong after a shipping mishap. A UPS employee failed to notice a warning that the cargo could not transit restricted countries under ITAR regulations. The shipment—a cockpit canopy and weapons-bay door from an Australian F-35—was routed from South Korea directly to Hong Kong. Both parts are coated with classified radar-absorbing material. Lockheed Martin and the Pentagon describe the components as unserviceable and low risk, but Congress is investigating whether the stealth coating formula has been compromised.
