Eisenkot: AG must probe Netanyahu over Oct. 7

Former IDF chief and opposition MK accuses PM of falsifying history and fleeing responsibility, calls for immediate criminal investigation into 55-page submission

Eisenkot Demands AG Open Criminal Probe Against Netanyahu Over Oct. 7 Document

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yesh Atid-led Sar! Yisrael party and former IDF chief of staff, launched a sharp attack Wednesday on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of distorting facts in a 55-page document the premier submitted. Eisenkot called on Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to order an immediate and comprehensive criminal investigation.

"Someone who lies, and all he knows how to do is delay decisions and flee from responsibility, is not worthy of the price we have paid. He will not be able to fix things after the disaster. He is not fit to lead Israel," Eisenkot said.

Eisenkot accused Netanyahu of a sustained effort to evade responsibility for the October 7 massacre and to rewrite how the events will be remembered. "Three years since the October 7 massacre, three years of a miserable attempt to flee from responsibility. To make people forget the disaster. To dodge the truth, the warnings that were laid out, the alerts that were sounded, the alarm bells that rang," he said.

Eisenkot added that he would not allow Netanyahu to rewrite the record: "We will not let the prime minister of October 7 rewrite history, even if he submits another thousand false affidavits."

The Sar! Yisrael chairman continued his attack on the government's conduct: "The culture of lies in which Netanyahu and his failed ministers operate, the falsification of truth and the spreading of fabrications that will tear Israeli society apart even more, is a brazen attempt to rewrite history on the backs of the fallen, the wounded and their families, and at the expense of Israel's future."

Against this backdrop, Eisenkot demanded that the Attorney General intervene. "The Attorney General must get to the heart of the matter and order the opening of an immediate and comprehensive criminal investigation. Anyone who falsified documents and obstructed testimony must be held accountable," he said.

Eisenkot concluded by pledging that if he forms the next government, its first decision will be to establish a state commission of inquiry. "A state commission of inquiry will be the first decision of the government I form. Investigating the truth is not a privilege, it is the condition for restoring trust and preventing the next disaster," he said.
