Yochai Greenglick, cousin of fallen Staff Sergeant Shauli Greenglick, has launched a scathing attack on the documentary NAZA by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.
He argued that the damage inflicted on Israel and the IDF by the film is anything but incidental, despite what the film's title might suggest in Hebrew.
"The damage the filmmakers are doing to the State of Israel and the IDF is completely not incidental. It is deliberate and malicious," he wrote. "They are active partners in the blood libels of global antisemitism."
The IDF Is the Most Moral Army in the World
Greenglick contended that the reality he knows is completely different from what is portrayed in the film. According to him, the IDF makes significant efforts to avoid harming civilians during combat.
"The truth? The IDF is the most moral army in the world. The IDF protects the lives of enemy civilians, sometimes even at the risk of its own soldiers," he said. He added that the IDF warns civilians before strikes, cancels operations due to concerns about civilian casualties, and allows humanitarian aid into the Strip.
Greenglick also addressed the film's screening at the Venice Film Festival, where he said it received prolonged applause.
"These two directors did more damage to Israel than all the Israelis who spied for Iran during the war combined," he wrote, adding that "in Venice they applauded them for 25 minutes, but here in Israel they will be hated for the rest of their lives."
"Maybe You'll Make a Film About This?"
Greenglick then turned to a photograph of his cousin, Shauli Greenglick, assisting an elderly Gazan woman during combat in the Strip.
"Shauli Greenglick, my cousin, helping an elderly woman in Gaza," he said. "No blurred faces. Not Unit 8200. From the field itself."
Greenglick directed the image straight at the filmmakers: "Maybe you'll make a film about this, Yuval and Rachel?"
He expanded on his position, claiming the filmmakers "stabbed IDF soldiers in the back, those same soldiers who charged into battle to protect them too."
Elderly Gazan Woman in a Wheelchair
Greenglick also recounted the story behind the photograph, telling of Shauli during the fighting in Gaza.
"Shauli Greenglick, my cousin, fought in Gaza at the beginning of the ground operation as a communications soldier in the Nahal Brigade's 931st Battalion, alongside his commander and friend Shai Shamriz," he said. "In December '23, the fighting was at its peak, and a terrorist could emerge from any shaft. Despite this, when Shauli encountered an elderly Gazan woman in a wheelchair, he didn't hesitate, he helped her and made sure to move her to a safe place."
He recalled that Shauli became known after appearing in IDF uniform on the television show "Rising Star," but chose to give up that dream and opportunity in order to enter combat in Gaza.
"These are IDF soldiers: from King David to Hannah Senesh. Gentle, sensitive people, and at the same time bold fighters when required."
Greenglick concluded with what Shauli himself wrote before entering Gaza: "We will continue to fight in the darkness until we see the light."
Shauli Greenglick fell together with his commander and friend Shai Shamriz in the Gaza Strip on December 26, 2023, at the age of 26. May their memory be a blessing.
