The Israeli Hadassah Medical Organization formally opened its first European medical facility in Limassol on Thursday, marking a major expansion of its regional healthcare operations. The inauguration of the Hadassah Medical Centre Limassol represents the establishment of a permanent footprint in Cyprus, with plans already underway to construct two additional full scale hospitals in Nicosia and Limassol.
A dedicated blessing ceremony was held at the Limassol facility, attended by government representatives, business executives, and medical experts. The religious proceedings were led jointly by Bishop Athanasios of Limassol and Chief Rabbi of Cyprus Arie Zeev Raskin, after which invited guests conducted an official walkthrough of the new facilities.
The newly opened center serves as the first permanent European site for the Israeli medical group, which operates two major university hospitals in Jerusalem. The Limassol facility will deliver specialist consultations, diagnostic imaging, laboratory medicine, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare services to local and international patients.
The site acts as a regional hub for complex medical care, allowing patients in Cyprus to access second opinions and direct referrals within Hadassah's broader network in Israel. The Limassol center will handle care coordination before and after specialized procedures performed abroad.
Hadassah confirmed that over the next 12 months it intends to build a new hospital in Nicosia equipped with five operating theaters and approximately 50 inpatient beds. Concurrently, the organization is evaluating plans for a Category A hospital in Limassol featuring eight to 10 operating theaters and over 100 inpatient beds.
These projects form integral components of the Hadassah Healthcare Park, a strategic medical network designed to increase hospital capacity, expand clinical research, and offer advanced specialist services. While initial plans focused on a single large development in Lakatamia, the organisation shifted toward a phased strategy, starting with medium sized facilities before committing to further investments.
According to statements provided by healthcare representatives to Agence France-Presse, operations at the Limassol center will expand progressively ahead of an official grand opening ceremony set for October 15, which senior officials from Cyprus, Israel, and Greece are expected to attend.
